Our Widow’s Might
Widow’s Might was born out of the remarkable resilience of Mrs. Ekaette O. Ita-Nya (affectionately known as Eti-Eka).
In January 1993, tragedy struck when her husband, Mr. Ita Nya Ita (Nwariwa), lost his life in a fatal accident while transporting building materials to complete their family home. At just 36 years old, Eti-Eka was left widowed with five young children to raise on her own.
Though brokenhearted, she remained unwavering in her commitment to her children’s future. For three years, she and her children lived in a single rented room, enduring hardship but never giving in to despair. Through sheer determination, her “Widow’s Mite” — her sacrifice and perseverance — ensured that all five of her children completed secondary and university education.
But Eti-Eka’s compassion reached far beyond her own family. Despite her struggles, she chose to help other disadvantaged children by providing school fees, uniforms, and supplies whenever she could. She lived out the very spirit of “bearing the widow that bears the child.”
After serving faithfully as a teacher for 35 years, she passed away in 2013 at the age of 56. Her gratuity remains unpaid, yet her legacy continues to inspire.
Widow’s Might Child Right Education Initiative carries her vision forward: to lighten the burdens of widows and disadvantaged families, ensuring their children are not denied the opportunity of a sustainable, quality education due to the loss or incapacity of a breadwinner.

Why This Story Matters Today
Eti-Eka’s story reminds us that even in the face of loss and hardship, the power of education transforms lives. She believed that every child — no matter their background — deserves a chance to learn, grow, and succeed.
That same belief fuels the Widow’s Might Child Right Education Initiative today.
We continue her mission by ensuring that disadvantaged children have access to school fees, uniforms, books, and safe learning environments.
We prepare children for national entrance exams, giving them a fair chance at quality education.
We build classrooms, libraries, and ICT centers so that communities once left behind can dream again.
Your support keeps her legacy alive — turning her Widow’s Mite into an enduring movement of hope, dignity, and opportunity for every child.
